On our way back to the West Coast we stayed in San Antonio for a week. We arrived during a tremendous rainstorm - it dropped over 12 inches of rain in about 3 hours. The freeways were closed so we got an impromptu tour of downtown San Antonio. Marilyn is here in front of the infamous Alamo.

The Alamo started as a Mission but came to be known as an icon for American independence after a tremendous fight from freedom from Mexico. Davy Crockett died during this battle and all several hundred men are honored as heros.

This is the actual barrack wall that held off the Mexican Army for 3 days.

The Riverwalk is a beautiful area with terrific restaurants. I was right here on this Riverwalk 20 years ago when I graduated from Air Force Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. It was fun to see Basic Trainees still walking around. I loved being in the military and it was terrific to see our proud young americans started their new career.

We took a boat ride down the river

Downtown San Antonio is a beautiful city

All the restaurants are colorful and have outdoor seating. It was warm and sunny and a great day to eat on the patio.

I always wondered what caused all the Armadillos to end up dead on the road - clearly they have a drinking problem. We need a new campaign "Armadillos don't let Armadillos cross the road drunk" Please send donations.

Monument to the brave men that fought at the Alamo. I just get goosebumps when you read about the last few days these men faced with pride and bravery. I hope they knew the impact they would have on our early America.
